Housie Mousie and the Christmas Crow is a simplistic and straightforward story for young children. I can see this book being read to children anywhere between 5 and 7. I believe the text is simple enough that a child older than 8 could read it themselves, or perhaps even younger depending on proficiency. 

Housie Mousie and the Christmas Crow is the second book in the series detailing Housie Mousie's adventures, the first being Housie Mousie and the Big Cheese. While reading the first book is not necessary to enjoy this one, characters are not always described when first introduced, and it is left to the reader to do some context reading.

The biggest difficulty I found when reading this short novel was that it was sometimes difficult to discern who was speaking. However, I find this a minor flaw as the book is a joy to read. Housie Mousie and the Christmas Crow is about talking animals working together to spread Christmas joy, spirit, and love. While that premise may seem derivative, I believe that’s for a reason: it is very endearing.

Housie Mousie and the Christmas Crow is a straightforward read. There is little descriptive text, and the descriptions that do exist are well executed. Most of the book is dialogue and actions, which makes it very fast-paced and never boring.

Aside from the engaging and charming text, some pictures wonderfully complement the narrative. I cannot discern how these pictures were produced, but they won me over with their vibrant colors and joyful expressions.

In the end, I would recommend this book to anyone, regardless of age, if they enjoy Christmas and simple reads. Housie Mousie and the Christmas Crow made me smile on nearly every page thanks to its heart-warming premise and engaging narrative. I do believe that you can do no wrong by adding this to your library, and encourage you to pick up the preceding book: Housie Mousie and the Big Cheese.
