Alter Egos

 When I first started reading Alter Ego I was rather concerned. This is going to be some hooky new age nonsense isn’t it? But in just reading the prologue I flipped from seriously skeptical to saying oh, yes of course you can do that.

The premise of the book is you can use alter egos to help unlock potential within yourself. For example, don your “Charmer” personality before a big party. Don the “CEO” persona when trying to negotiate an important contract. You can use these personas to perform better.

The book gives many examples of high performers that use alter egos. Actually, I will say, sometimes it feels like the book gives a few too many examples. The first few chapters of the book really focus on why you might want an alter ego. Starting in chapter 5 that starts to change. Here we get some practical tips on how to unlock your alternative ego

The book also provides some warning when using an alter ego can get out of hand. Like any tool, it can be used for good or ill. Using an alter ego isn’t really being someone else, it is just harnessing that potential within yourself. You are always accountable for your action, whether by you or an ego (it's still you in either case).

I think the book provides some interesting tips and I can see immense value in the system provided.
