Finlay Donovan Is Killing It: A Novel (The Finlay Donovan Series Book 1)
As a married man with no children, I think Finlay Donovan, a recently divorced or actually in the process of being divorced mother with two children, was not really intended for me. That being said, the book is witty, over the top, and hilarious.
Finlay, a struggling murder mystery Novelist meets with her agent in a Panera bread. Sometimes it seems everyone is a writer in fiction. They discuss her upcoming book, and Finlay requests a bigger advance because “My last few murders were so formulaic.”
A woman with a problem, a husband she needs removed, overhears and wants to hire Finlay. Hilarity ensues.
Men compete for Finlay’s love. People die. Finlay’s babysitter gets roped into the whole ordeal. It is a funny book with great characters.
The book did have a few points where I thought it would end. Personally, I think a book with two love interests can end before the book is over as it leaves it up to the reader to decide which choice was made. Cosimano does not do that in this book. Well, or maybe not.
And the book does end ready for a second book to come out, which will be Finlay Dovan Knocks ‘Em Dead. I think it is out now, just not on Kindle Unlimited.
So who is the book for?
Writers
Mothers trying to keep it together
Divorcees
It also has some get smart/ pink panther, bumbling spy (but a novelist detective) vibe
Despite not being any of those things, except perhaps the last, I thoroughly enjoyed the book. I’m looking forward to the sequel.
Perspective: First person
Tense: Past
