Welcome to the Blog

I was recently taking a course on creative writing and the instructor mentioned in times past the local newspaper might write a review of your new book. He continued, today, newspapers don’t really do that. This was all a bit of a shock to me. I don’t really read the paper, mostly online news and I mostly do that in connection to my work.  I wasn’t really aware newspapers would really do this at all, or that was something I might pursue in times past when releasing a book. It is a bit sad to see things change. Even if I wasn’t there for the initial experience.

So I thought to myself, why not write a whole local newspaper. I want to know better what is going on in my community. After realizing that was a crazy idea, I decided to settle on just one aspect of that local paper, which is book reviews. And that is the birth of this site. A place where Andrew and I review books and give our thoughts.

Really any book could be reviewed on this site, I’m sure there will be something you will enjoy here. I don’t plan on giving numerical ratings to any of the books, as art really can’t be summarized in a simple score. Ideally some aspects of the review will be standardized. I will also try to share some of the attributes of the book. And I hope to identify readers who might find the book interesting. 

I hope this site will serve a few purposes. First, to give you the reader some ideas on books I did or did not enjoy. Perhaps this will give you ideas on books to check out. There is so much content out there in the world, it is hard to find something engaging. And second, I think it will give me the opportunity to read and study books as well as analyze them and become a better writer myself.
